John Berrigan

Director General, DG FISMA, European Commission

John Berrigan is currently the Director-General, DG for Financial Stability, Financial Services and Capital Markets Union, of the European Commission. This Directorate focuses on analysis of financial-sector developments in the EU and globally and surveillance of national financial systems within the EU. In addition, the Directorate is responsible for macro-prudential policies at both EU and national levels and for Commission relations with the European Systemic Risk Board. The Directorate is also responsible for bank/non-bank resolution and for Commission relations with the newly-established Single Resolution Board.

John has been a Commission official since the mid-1980s and has spent much of that time working on financial-sector issues first in DG ECFIN and now in DG FISMA. He has also worked on monetary policy and exchange-rate analysis in the context of preparations for the introduction of the euro in 1999. In the mid 1990s, he worked for several years with the International Monetary Fund. He was Commission Mission Chief for Portugal from July 2013 to November 2014 in the context of the recent economic assistance programme and has contributed to financial-sector aspects of the assistance programmes for other Member States.

John has a masters degree in economics from University College Dublin. He is married with two children.

Fredrik Ekström

President, Nasdaq Stockholm

Ekström joined the OM Group in 1999 and has held various leading roles in clearing and fixed income throughout his career, including the role as Business Analyst at EDX in London and Head of Risk Management at NeoNet Securities, a Swedish based brokerage firm. In 2010 he joined Nasdaq as Chief Risk Officer for Nasdaq Clearing. Over the past decade, he has held a variety of senior leadership roles, including President Nasdaq Clearing and Head of Nasdaq Nordic Fixed Income Exchange. Ekström holds a degree in Economics from Uppsala University.

Urban Funered

Chief Executive Officer, Swedish Securities Markets Association

Urban Funered has more than 25 years of experience from the financial services sector , having held senior positions in the legal community and financial services industry in Stockholm, New York and London, and served as a civil servant and diplomat in Stockholm and Brussels.
Urban Funered has an academic background in law, with master’s degrees and post-graduate degrees in banking and financial law from the University of Lund and Queen Mary & Westfield College of London University, and also holds a bachelor’s degree from the School of Economics and Management at Lund University.
Urban Funered has held positions as foreign associate with Skadden Arps Slate Meagher & Flom in New York, as a lawyer (advokat) with the law firm Vinge in Stockholm, as legal counsel in the investment bank division and as group compliance officer of the Nordic investment bank Carnegie, as civil servant in the Swedish Ministry of Finance in Stockholm, as minister and financial services attache at the Swedish Permanent Representation to the EU , and as Director of Public Policy at Fidelity International in London and Vienna, before heading back to Stockholm, taking up the role as CEO of the Swedish Securities Dealers Association.

Edward Hæggström

Co-founder and Chief Executive Officer, Nanoform

Born 1969. Finnish citizen. Co-founder of Nanoform, Chief Executive Officer and a member of the Management Team since 2015.

He holds a Ph.D. degree in applied physics from the University of Helsinki and a Master of Business Administration degree in innovation management from Helsinki University of Technology.

Dr. Hæggström has, among others, been a professor at the University of Helsinki and Head of the Electronics Research Laboratory within the Department of Physics. He has previously held the role of visiting professor of physics at Harvard Medical School, visiting scholar (assistant professor) of physics at Stanford University and project leader at the CERN.

Dr. Hæggström is scientific advisor and the Chairman of the Board of Directors of GlucoModicum Oy.

Alex Molvin

Fund Manager South, Almi Invest

As Fund Manager, Alex has overall responsibility for teams and investments in Almi Invest’s South fund. He also works with his own investments, which involves finding, investing in and developing innovative companies with growth potential as well as implementing an exit strategy from the holding.​

Before Alex joined Almi Invest he worked as partner in venture capital companies and CEO of various growth companies in the cleantech, B2B trade, industry and ICT sectors.

Johan Mörner

Chief Executive Officer, Erik Penser Bank

Mr. Johan Mörner is Chief Executive Officer at Erik Penser Bank AB.He joined Erik Penser Bank from Swedbank where he was employed as Head of Private Banking. Prior to Swedbank, he was employed as Head of Private Banking at Carnegie Investment Bank, Head of Equities at Nordea Markets, and Managing Director by HSBC Securities.

Sirpa Pietikäinen

MEP, ECON Committee, European Parliament

Sirpa Pietikäinen is a Finnish Member of the European Parliament representing European People’s Party (EPP) since 2008. Pietikäinen was Finland’s Minister of Environment in between 1991 and 1995 and a Member of the Finnish Parliament from 1983 to 2003.

At the European Parliament, Pietikäinen is a full Member in the Economic and Monetary Affairs Committee (ECON), and in the Women’s Right and Gender Equality Committee (FEMM), and a substitute Member of the Environment and Public Health Committee (ENVI).

Bjørn Sibbern

President Nasdaq Nordic, Executive Vice President, European Market Services

Bjørn Sibbern is President of European Markets. In this role, he works closely across all of Nasdaq’s European Markets teams to deepen the relationships between Nasdaq and institutional and main street investors, broker dealers and regulators in the region. 

With over a decade of experience at Nasdaq, Bjørn has emerged as an influential leader within Nasdaq and the broader industry. Prior to his current role as President, European Markets, he was Executive Vice President for Global Information Services (GIS), based in New York City. He has also previously led Nasdaq’s Global Commodities business, while also serving as President of the Nasdaq Copenhagen Exchange.   

In an earlier role, Bjørn managed the company’s Nordic Cash Equities and Derivatives Markets. Bjørn’s proven track record in business-building and his ability to foster and grow valuable client relationships positions Nasdaq to further evolve its European business through best-in-class industry partnership and collaboration, product development, and geographic expansion to deliver greater value for all clients.

Bjørn brings experience from both sides of the transaction business as he has held leading positions at Nordic broker firms and covered diverse leading positions at the Nordic exchanges.

Before joining the company, Bjørn was Head of Trading at Stocknet Norway and CEO at E*TRADE Bank Denmark. While President of the Nasdaq Copenhagen exchange, Bjørn also served on the board of the Committee for Corporate Governance under the Danish Ministry of Economic and Business Affairs.

Bjørn holds an Executive MBA, a Diploma in Business Administration and an MSc in Economics & Business Administration and Law from Copenhagen Business School.

Erik Thedéen

Director General, Swedish Financial Supervisory Authority

Erik Thedéen has been FI's Director General since 21 October 2015. He is also:

  • Chair of the Task Force on Sustainable Finance within the International Organisation of Securities Commissions (IOSCO).

  • Member of the Management Board of the European Securities and Markets Authority (ESMA).

  • Member of the Government's Committee for Technological Innovation and Ethics (Komet).

Erik Thedéen has previously been CEO of KPA Pension, State Secretary at the Swedish Ministry of Finance, President of Nasdaq OMX Nordic Stockholm, a strategist at Brummer & Partners, Deputy Director General of the Swedish National Debt Office, an analyst at JP Bank, and a trader/analyst at Sveriges Riksbank (the Swedish central bank).

Erik Thedéen holds a Master's degree in economics from the Stockholm School of Economics.

Jane Thostrup Jagd

Senior Lead Financial Consultant, Ørsted

Last year, Jane Thostrup Jagd received DANSIF's ESG award for her pioneering work on making ESG standards.

Until recently, she was Lead Researcher for the Center for ESG Research, where she amongst others in collaboration with Nasdaq Copenhagen, CFA Denmark and FSR Danish Auditors in 2019 prepared a proposal for an ESG standard note, which is aimed at being helpful for the investors.

Jane is a member of FSR - the Danish Auditors' Committee for Corporate Social Responsibility and Sustainability (USB) - and is a longtime Technical Working Group member of the Climate Disclosure Standards Board (CDSB), which in the autumn published a guide on how companies should let the climate impact their financial accounts, cf. existing IFRS accounting rules - completely in line with TCFD.

Jane holds a PhD in M&A from Copenhagen Business School and is currently a Senior Lead Financial Consultant at Ørsted, working with assuring both the financial and non-financial reporting.

Stéphanie Yon-Courtin

MEP, ECON Committee, European Parliament

Stéphanie Yon-Courtin is a French MEP for the La République En Marche! party, part of the Renew Europe group. She was elected in May 2019 to the European Parliament where she is the vice-chair of the committee on economic and monetary affairs (ECON). Yon-Courtin is also a substitute member in the internal market and consumer protection committee (IMCO) and in the tax matters sub-committeen (FISC). In addition, she is the chair of the delegation for relations with Canada and a member of the delegation for relations with the United States. Prior to her election, she served as mayor of Saint-Contest, and vice-president of the urban community Caen la Mer. Before that, Yon-Courtin worked as an advisor on international affairs in the office of Bruno Lasserre, former president of the French Competition Authority. Yon-Courtin holds a master’s degree in law from the Universities of Caen and Bristol, and a master’s degree in European Business Law from the Institute of European Studies.
